Meet Dr. Suzuki

What patients are saying about Dr. Suzuki…

Biography

Kentaro P. Suzuki, MD was born and raised in Pasadena, Calif. where he grew up playing multiple sports, including basketball, soccer and baseball. For his undergraduate studies, he attended Harvard University and graduated magna cum laude in biochemical sciences. While Dr. Suzuki enjoyed his time in Boston, he strongly desired to return to sunny Southern California. He received a UC Regents scholarship to attend the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) for medical school and was awarded several awards upon graduation, including the leadership award.

Due to his ever-present love of sports and subsequent interest in the musculoskeletal system from medical school, orthopedic surgery was a natural fit for Dr. Suzuki. He remained at UCSD for his orthopedic surgery residency, where he received excellent clinical training and had the opportunity to participate in several different aspects of orthopedic research. One of his research abstracts was selected as a finalist for the New Investigator Recognition Award at the 2009 Orthopaedic Research Society Annual Meeting.

During residency, Dr. Suzuki was once again drawn to athletics and their associated injuries and elected to pursue a sports medicine fellowship. He completed the Kaiser Permanente, San Diego Sports Medicine Fellowship, during which time he gained abundant experience in managing multiple aspects of sports medicine with a particular focus on arthroscopic and minimally invasive management of acute and chronic knee and shoulder injuries.

Through his subspecialty training as a sports medicine physician, Dr. Suzuki has extensive experience with the latest techniques in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery. Being an active individual, he can easily relate to his patients’ desires to return to full activity and devises treatment plans in the best interest of the patient. He takes great pride in caring for and treating his patients. Non-operative treatments are maximized initially and the most contemporary operative techniques are utilized when surgery is indicated. His clinical interests include ligament and tendon injuries, joint instability and cartilage injuries.

Dr. Suzuki is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. He joined Ventura Orthopedics in 2014. Currently, Dr. Suzuki is the team physician for the Buena High School football team and provides care to athletes of all levels throughout Ventura County.

Dr. Suzuki lives in Ventura with his wife and dog, where they enjoy staying active themselves, exploring the area and traveling when possible.
