Meet Dr. Sivasundaram…

Lakshmanan (Lucky) Sivasundaram, MD is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine and shoulder, hip, and knee surgery.

Dr. Sivasundaram was born and raised in San Fernando Valley. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Neuroscience from UCLA, where he graduated cum laude. He received his medical degree from the Keck School of Medicine at USC, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honors society and graduated with a Distinction in Research.

Dr. Sivasundaram completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.

He subsequently completed a one-year fellowship in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at the Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. It is recognized as a premier hospital for Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery. During this time, he served as an assistant team physician for the Chicago Bulls (NBA), Chicago White Sox (MLB), and Chicago Fire (MLS).

His clinical expertise includes advanced minimally invasive arthroscopic procedures and reconstructive joint surgery. He has specialized training in joint preservation procedures, including modern cartilage restoration techniques, shoulder arthroplasty, and arthroscopic hip preservation surgery.

Dr. Sivasundaram is accomplished in both clinical and laboratory research. He has authored over 100 scientific manuscripts and textbook chapters that have received national recognition and awards in sports medicine and shoulder. He has previously been invited to lecture on these topics both nationally and internationally. Doximity has honored him as being the Top 10% Most Cited Clinician in 2022 and 2023, as well as the Top 10% most Published Clinician in 2022.

In addition to sports medicine, Dr. Sivasundaram specializes in shoulder, hip, and knee surgery. His state licensure includes California, Illinois, and Indiana.

Dr. Sivasundaram enjoys taking care of athletes and is the current team physician for Oak Park High School. In his spare time, Dr. Sivasundaram enjoys staying active with golf, weightlifting and traveling.
